Discover the Natural Beauty of Polje “Jezero” and Taste Local Wines and Cuisine

A cycling trip to “Jezero” valley offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the Dalmatian hinterland. This route takes cyclists through one of the most beautiful and picturesque areas of southern Croatia, where mountains, valleys, and historical sites meet. „Jezero“ valley, once a seasonal lake, is now a fertile valley covered with vineyards and orchards. Throughout history, this field has been of great importance to the local population due to its fertile soil, and even today, it remains a place where high-quality products such as wine and fruit, especially grapes and figs, are produced.

Tour Information:

This cycling tour begins in the village of Staševica, located just 15 minutes from the towns of Ploče and Vrgorac. Situated on the very edge of Polje “Jezero,” an ideal area for cycling tours, this field was once a vast lake that transformed into fertile land after the construction of a drainage tunnel.

After a brief introduction from our guide, the tour sets off through Croatia’s largest vineyard. Alongside endless rows of grapevines, cyclists will also pass through fields of strawberries, orchards, and various vegetables. The tour follows the course of the Matica River, which runs through the valley. Along the way, there are small springs and canals where you can take a short break, refresh yourself with cool, clean water, or even take a dip.

After approximately 30 minutes of cycling, we arrive at our first stop — This is our small camp where you’ll get to taste some finger food. After the break, we continue exploring the beauty of the landscape and enjoying the sounds of nature. Along the way, you’ll see many family farms that grow various fruits and vegetables.

The tour concludes with a return to Staševica, where we visit local winery to sample more exquisite wines and homemade delicacies, all while relaxing to the sounds of traditional Dalmatian music.
